Jazz Raga

gabor

Two heavily spun LPs which sit side by side in my collection are the wonderful psyche-folk-gypsy-Latin flecked Sorcerer and Jazz Raga by Gabor Szabo. After hearing the live version of 'Mizrab' from the Sorcerer LP a few years ago on a jazz comp, I was instantly hooked. A decent original Impulse! copy of the LP Sorcerer can usually be grabbed for a score, the more elusive and talked about 'Jazz Raga', featuring Bernard Purdie, has always fetched significantly more. Until now! Yep, Light In The Attic have done it once again with another true re-issue - LITA053. Most of the Sorcerer tracks feature hear, in their studio form, plus way out numbers like 'Walking On Nails'. Highly recommended. More details and to order click here

And why not dig a bit deeper still, and try and find a copy of the
self-titled Advancement LP, released on Phillips, who were partly
Szabo's backing band at the time. Sample here

Fast3

After receiving a fair amount of feedback regarding our '3' mixtape, here, it seems Fast3's incredible cover of Don't You Want Me requires further info. Andrea Trillo, along with the superbly talented Wilkes brothers (Dave & Phil Wilkinson) released this a few years ago on an extremely limited blue 45 (Butterfly Records, Barcelona - BUT-22), so you may be hard pushed to find a copy now. Feel free to stream it here, and check out their latest news and releases here
